Victorian Quaker 1840s Brown Satin Coal-Scuttle Bonnet

£495.00

Nearly 200 years since it was made, this bonnet would have been intended to be worn when outside the home by a working woman. It is made of cardboard for internal structure, brown silky satin and lined in cream satin, with draw cords to pull the crown cap tighter around the head. Features a wide cream satin ribbon to tie securely under the chin. The wide brim was fashionable during the period and a sign of Queen Victoria’s ascension to the throne in 1937.

Size: One size, smaller than you would expect

Material: 50% silk, 50% cardboard

Condition: Very good, hardly signs of much wear except for a large stain to the lining as shown, this is a fragile item due to age.
