Norma Kamali 80’s parachute trousers. This collection is known to be one of her most famous from the 1970’s , continued into the 80’s under her new label OMO, (1978,’On My Own’), after her divorce . In this new territory , with no investors or business partners she proved to be groundbreaking , as a woman striking out on her own in a working male environment where women struggled to make it on their own. Made from real parachutes, there were various styles made , jumpsuits , pants , jackets , coats , skirts , dresses , swimsuits and sack bags . The trousers are made from nylon with cords to adjust the shapes and lengths .
Norma has said that one day she went to Halston’s brownstone apartment with their mutual friend Victor Hugo . She was told to sit on the floor and close her eyes . Then from the second floor Victor dropped a parachute on her head . He said , ‘I know you’ll do something amazing with that ”
