Maison Margiela Autumn 2001 Frayed Satin Dress

Black silk dress with fraying edges by Maison Margiela. From Autumn 2001. The dress is constructed from a rectangle of silk that forms the front panel, stitched onto a more formed back panel, that has arm hole curves and sleeves with rolled hem finishings. The front piece has the matte “wrong” side facing out and the back piece is shiny “right” side out. The front panel edges are left raw, creating a fringing with the weft fibres. A boatneck collar forms from the front neck-edge turning down to reveal the shiny “right” side of the fabric. Features long sleeves attached at the back armhole, leaving the armpit open.
